During a distinguished career, managed design and implementation of train control, communications, electrification, rail vehicles, fare collection, control centers, people mover systems and trolley buses for public transportation systems, with contracts valued at over $1.0 billion. Career has included tenure on transit operator, system supplier and consultant staff. Responsibilities have included recruiting and supervising professional staffs; preparing specifications, plans, budgets, cost estimates and schedules for the procurement of systems, materials, equipment and services; managing consultant contracts for preliminary and final design and for procurement/construction management of mass transit operating systems; assessment of contractors' work for compliance with contract requirements; review of contractors’ scheduling, development, manufacturing, installation and acceptance testing; value engineering; planning and implementation of system cutover and startup; negotiation of contract change orders; and making presentations to senior management, staff, clients, customers, public agencies and community representatives. Served on ad hoc committees addressing fire/life safety and security issues relating to design of new transit systems, as well as on numerous professional organizations, often serving in leadership positions or on key committees. Authored articles and technical papers on systems integration, train control, communications, railcar design, platform edge barrier systems, procurement management, electromagnetic compatibility and static electricity research.
