About Michael Goldstein

Over the years I have had the privilege to contribute to the creation of many innovative institutions and approaches to higher education, from Western Governors University to SARA. Now, after a career spanning city government, university administration and, of course, many years in the practice of higher education law, I have joined Tyton Partners, the premier investment banking and strategy consulting firm in the education space, as a Managing Director and as co-creator of a new Center for Higher Education Transformation. I have taken on this challenge because I continue to believe deeply that high-quality, accessible and inclusive higher education – in the US and globally – is essential to achieving just and equitable societies. At Tyton Partners I collaborate with an extraordinary team to help institutions and their partners find and implement the strategies, structures and resources necessary to not only survive but to succeed and prosper in a post-pandemic world. I am especially concerned with preserving the uniquely pluralistic higher education sector in the U.S. Higher education is profoundly not a commodity, and the mix of institutions of different types, sizes and most important learning environments and approaches that characterize the American mix of public, non-profit and, yes, for profit is essential to ensuring that those alternatives remain available to learners of every type and interest. My intention is to help institutions -- and those who partner with and support them -- with the ideas and approaches that will result in robust, affordable and accessible learning opportunities that meet the unique needs of every individual.

Managing Director And Co-Creator, Center For Higher Education Transformation
Tyton Partners - Strategy Consulting Sep 2020 - Present
    Boston, Massachusetts, Us
After many years counselling countless colleges and universities, organizations, ed tech companies and investors I have joined Tyton Partners, the premier investment banking and strategy consulting firm in the education space. I have taken on this challenge because I continue to believe deeply that high-quality, accessible and inclusive higher education – in the US and globally – is essential to achieving just and equitable societies. I am also committed to the notion that higher education is not a commodity -- that it is a highly differentiated service that provides a widely disparate universe of learners with a broad range of alternatives, not just in terms of content and place but in manner of delivery and the very nature of the learning experience. One size most emphatically does not fit all, and I believe it is essential to maintain the diversity of institutional models that characterize American higher education. I am also committed to helping institutions become more effective and inclusive as they become more efficient, sustainable as well as contributing to the development of an educated, trained and informed citizenry. At Tyton Partners I work with an extraordinary team to help institutions and their partners find and implement the strategies, structures and resources necessary to not only survive but to succeed and prosper in a post-pandemic world.
