Over the years I have had the privilege to contribute to the creation of many innovative institutions and approaches to higher education, from Western Governors University to SARA. Now, after a career spanning city government, university administration and, of course, many years in the practice of higher education law, I have joined Tyton Partners, the premier investment banking and strategy consulting firm in the education space, as a Managing Director and as co-creator of a new Center for Higher Education Transformation. I have taken on this challenge because I continue to believe deeply that high-quality, accessible and inclusive higher education – in the US and globally – is essential to achieving just and equitable societies. At Tyton Partners I collaborate with an extraordinary team to help institutions and their partners find and implement the strategies, structures and resources necessary to not only survive but to succeed and prosper in a post-pandemic world. I am especially concerned with preserving the uniquely pluralistic higher education sector in the U.S. Higher education is profoundly not a commodity, and the mix of institutions of different types, sizes and most important learning environments and approaches that characterize the American mix of public, non-profit and, yes, for profit is essential to ensuring that those alternatives remain available to learners of every type and interest. My intention is to help institutions -- and those who partner with and support them -- with the ideas and approaches that will result in robust, affordable and accessible learning opportunities that meet the unique needs of every individual.
