Michael P. Bourque became The MEMIC Group’s second President and CEO in the company’s history in September 2017. Mike previously served under founding president John Leonard for more than two decades, culminating that time as Senior Vice President for External Affairs and corporate secretary for The MEMIC Group. In that role, Mike led the company’s corporate marketing programs, including its advertising and public relations, outbound communications, as well as its government and community relations efforts. He oversaw corporate marketing efforts that helped drive the growth of The MEMIC Group from a single state workers’ compensation carrier to a super-regional specialist with policyholders across the country, helping to position the company as a leader in workforce safety in the insurance industry. As President and CEO, Mike has led the company’s continued expansion and growth. In 2023, the company grew to a record levels in written premium, policyholder surplus, and total assets. During his tenure the company has issued policyholder dividends of more than $130 million. Mike serves as a member of the board of directors of Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC) as well as the boards of its subsidiary companies, MEMIC Indemnity Company, MEMIC Casualty Company, and Casco View Holdings. He has served on the Board of the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI), where he chaired the Human Capital Committee from 2022-2024. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF). He is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Company’s Political Action Committee (NAMIC PAC).Mike is a graduate of the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America and an accredited Workers’ Compensation Professional (WCP®) as recognized by AMCOMP. He is also a graduate of the Maine Development Foundation’s Leadership Maine program. Mike currently serves on numerous community boards and committees. He is chair of the University of Maine Board of Visitors and treasurer of the FocusMaine Steering Committee. He is a member of the board of directors of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Historical Society, the United Way of Southern Maine where he serves as Vice Chair. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine.
