At La-Z-Boy, I specifically worked in corporate procurement, designing a new supplier portal that they launched in mid July, 2016. This portal was designed to improve the ease and effectiveness of information flow with La-Z-Boy suppliers and improve partnership and collaboration. The portal would handle information from supplier contacts, legal contracts, supplier scorecards, corrective action reports, and continuous improvement plans. From developing this portal first hand, I learned how valuable good communication with suppliers is for a company. Good communication can improve innovation, quality of your product, speed of delivery and customer satisfaction. As stated earlier, the portal was sent out in mid July. 2016, and it now the primary tool for La-Z-Boy to communicate with its suppliers, and vise versa. This was a big step forward La-Z-Boy in regards for supplier management. As an intern, I learned a lot about the field of supply chain as a whole. I was able to sit in on conference calls with different suppliers, discussing their products and pricing. Learning how employees compare and negotiate prices between suppliers is a skill that will be very useful for me in my future professional career. -
InternshipKodiak Group May 2014 - Oct 2014Plano, Texas, UsKodiak group is a local engineering firm in Grayling, MI, that develops solutions for companies that come to them with problems. I worked part time here, and my responsibilities included assisting the project managers with their large tasks. Here I was acclimated with an engineering environment and I developed useful engineering skills such as communication, efficiency and quality. I spent most of the summer assisting with the Chevron project. Chevron came to the Kodiak Group because they have just bought many natural gas processing sites all across northern Michigan. They hired Kodiak Group to go to all of these sites and and take scans of them to make site plans for each one. Each site plan created came with a equipment list along with all of its information and dimensions. Using the scan software provided, I located specific items in the plants and labeled them. The computer program I used and became very familiar with during this project was called Microstation created by Bentley.
