While I attended meetings and completed various miscellaneous projects throughout the summer, I spent the majority of my time filing records. To begin the process, I would open and read a document before searching a database by keyword or category for its copy. The document would be discarded if there were already a copy, otherwise I would electronically file the documents. To do this, I would navigate through three different applications, gathering necessary information to file the documents in an organized manner for ease of retrieval. In total, I was able to process over 20,000 documents that summer.

Over my two semesters as a Sophomore, I familiarized myself with Excel and its programming language, VBA. As an intern, I spent nearly every day finding ways to use Excel and VBA to improve projects and processes. I wrote script to automate daily index reporting using VBA and SQL languages and designed several multifaceted workbooks with dynamic PivotTables and PivotCharts using VBA. Another fun project I completed was to conduct a stress test on a portfolio of bonds in which I evaluated its inherent credit risk and the banks' capacity to withstand losses over varying lengths of credit cycles.

During my first summer interning with Washington Trust Bank, I was fortunate to visit and work with colleagues in various departments throughout the bank. From these department visits and various meetings I learned how important consistent, inter-departmental communication is in operating a business. When I was not visiting other departments, I spent my time compiling financial reports for product meetings and taking down minutes at those meetings. In addition, I was able to begin developing my skills in Excel over the summer.
