Managing Technical Risk through simplification, standardization and automation: Building an IT Operational Risk program we call "TechRisk" to build automated controls and evidencing of our software development lifecycle into our new technology platforms to ensure we manage risk effectively while making it easier for developers to get quality code to production.4. Kung Fu Talent Development: Kung Fu is an internal talent develop group we developed to help our staff upskill in newer technologies like cloud (AWS and GCP), Containerization (Open Shift and Kubernetes), Event Architectures (Kafka), Behavior Driven Development (BDD), Microservices and many others.5. Quality Engineering - Developing simplified non-functional testing capabilities such as Accessibility, Performance, and Security testing into our automated pipelines.

As one of USAA's 61 technical architects, I was responsible for setting technology direction and ensuring compliance across our 2300 person IT workforce. As architect of the mobile, social media, collaboration, intranet and search domains I was responsible for working with my business partners to understand the business roadmaps and translate that into a technical strategy, roadmap and infrastructure development plan. My job simply was to understand the business need and build out the infrastructure BEFORE the business was ready to utilize it. Some significant contributions include:1. Co-inventor, developer, champion and architect of USAA's mobile internet channel. Led a highly dynamic development team to build the first ever mobile channel for USAA. In 3 short years, USAA's mobile channel now serves 40 million logins per month.2. Championed an effort to build a "search center of excellence" which was responsible for deploying a Google-like search experience on usaa.com and USAA's intranet channel3. Major contributor to the IT applied research department filing over 40 patents and nominated for "innovator of the year" three years in a row.
