In June 2007, at the age of 19, I started a career in fulfilling customer orders through Zappos.com. I was a temporary associate with the company at this time but knew that this was the environment that I wanted to be in. I loved the fast pace of the positions I was placed in, which included picking customer orders and working with Kiva doing quality control. I was brought on fulltime and within 1 1/2 years I was promoted up to a lead within Zappos. During this time I learned many leadership skills and was placed into different roles which included our multis and singles pack department. I learned how to coach associates on their performance as well as provide praise and motivation during the shifts. Public speaking in the forms of start and middle of shifts also helped me with my confidence and relaying important information to my teams. I was in this leadership role for another 1 1/2 years before applying for and obtaining an Area Manager position within the company in 2010. Now this was a during a time of transition from Zappos to Amazon. I became an Area Manager the year after the company was bought out by Amazon.com in 2009 but the warehouse still remained under Zappos.com control until 2012. During this transition period I worked in a building that was being converted to Amazon so the atmosphere of our warehouse was very mixed. We had the culture of Zappos with the systems of Amazon. After the full conversion my role was classified as an Level 4 Area Manager and I was in this role for a combined Zappos/Amazon length of 6 years. In 2016 I was promoted within Amazon to a Level 5 Area Manager until July 2019. These two roles of L4 and L5 have given me even more leadership experience which includes, lean operations, safety first mindset, interview skills, continuous improvement projects / collaboration, shift planning, constructive feedbacks (proper delivery of written warnings and terminations), HR investigations, and developing members of my team into leaders.
