1974 - 2012 Audit and related Strategic Advisory Services (audit of public and private companies) including IPO's and related secondary rounds on both US and Canadian exchanges. Additionally, I have led special investigations on mergers and acquisitions (acting for both buyers and sellers) and on strategic initiatives for special committees of the Board regarding various matters, such as acquisition due diligence reviews and fraud investigations. The primary Industries included technology, manufacturing, telecommunications, financial markets/investing, broadcasting, automotive, forestry and professional services.I also spent considerable time working with mid stage private companies who remained private or looked to alternative growth strategies (sale, strategic investors and/or IPO). Acting as a strategic financial and business advisor to owners some of the major activities included - • Negotiating the sale of a multi-provincial bottling and distribution business for the owner and his family.• Acting as personal advisor and later one of two Trustees for a deceased high net worth individual whose investment activities approximated US$100 million. As President and CEO, I lead a global team responsible for sourcing, contract management and global governance of vendor relationships related to PwC’s procurement of global technology products and services (software, hardware, professional services and outsourcing) for use by the Firm’s 155+ territories/175,000 users. I personally structured many strategic vendor agreements that were considered firsts in the industry and resulted in successful customer/vendor long term relationships. The Company, comprising lawyers/negotiators and experienced procurement management staff were responsible for the active management, compliance and escalation of issues arising from over 125 active contracts throughout the PwC Network. As CEO, I reported to the Global CIO and Global Operations Leader (Chair) and Global Operations Board.

Strategically, as Global CIO I was responsible for setting and leading the execution of the Firm’s Global technology strategy. Chairing the Firm's Technology Board (territory and Business Lines of Service CIO's and IT Director's) the Board established the IT strategy and had oversight of the Technology operations in the Firm’s network of 155 country partnerships employing over 170,000 professional and support staff.Operationally, as Global CIO I was responsible to coordinate and manage a diverse global stakeholder group in their identification and prioritization of globally deployed and supported shared services that were aligned with the Firms global business priorities. The Global team was responsible for carrying our the strategy through the implementation and support of global applications; establishing enterprise-wide technology and architecture standards and leading the establishment and implementation of PwC’s IT security and compliance strategy and policy in the new regulatory environment.

The BC Advanced Systems Institute was chartered to promote science, research and the commercialization of technology. The Institute’s responsibility included management of an early stage seed capital fund [approximate $4 million] to commercialize early stage technology. As Audit and Finance/Investment Chair, I oversaw the Institute’s early stage investments and its ongoing management of the fund. During my tenure as Chairman, I was requested by the Government to negotiate the merger of the Institute with another prominent Provincial Agency that funded science and technology into a single Provincial Agency, which in turn would be responsible for encouraging investment, innovation and commercialization of science and technology in B.C. The newly created Agency (2005) became the B.C. Innovation Council.

The Premier of B.C. invited 15 CEOs to form a Technology Council and to provide direct input and advice to the Government of B.C. on economic, tax and investment issues impacting the Province. The objective was to make BC’s Technology Industry a major economic growth engine for B.C. and attract international interest. During my term, I was appointed subcommittee Chair on government procurement reform and a separate subcommittee to identify a strategy that would improve IT effectiveness in government and the newly created Health Authorities. I also was a member of the sub-committee tasked to Bridge the Province’s Digital Divide, that is to say, bringing broadband connectivity to all B.C. communities.
