I am an experienced banker and finance executive with over 30 years experience working in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific.Since 1 September 2020, I have been Westpac Group's Chief Financial Officer. I am responsible for the financial management and governance of the Group including Treasury and Investor Relations.Prior to joining Westpac, I was a partner in KPMG's Management Consulting practice specialising in financial services strategy, transformation and organisation change execution, cost and productivity improvement, and wealth separation and integration. In 1999 I joined ANZ and over 14 years worked in a variety of CFO roles and as the Managing Director of Global Mortgages and CEO Pacific. I was also COO of Asia Pacific. I have deep experience across all areas of banking and finance, a demonstrated ability to build diverse teams to drive and deliver strategic and transformational change and superior performance through revenue growth and cost optimisation.I commenced my career at Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co (now KPMG) and was admitted as a partner in the taxation practice in 1993. I was the Finance Director of AMRAD Corporation Limited in 1996 and managed its successful IPO and capital raising.

I was appointed CEO with the mandate to implement a customer, growth and productivity strategy to deliver revenue growth in each year in a more efficient operating structure. In addition, during 2010 I undertook the role of Chief Operating Officer of APEA Division for 6 months (as it then was) and led key projects (Asia Core Banking Replacement (ACE) and AML/KYC) to success while reprioritising andffocusing the Division’s investment slate.A core element of the success was developing executive and leadership capability: bringing in experienced banking specialists to implement new simple customer propositions and developing local Pacific leaders and connections with local Pacific communities.

In this role, I was responsible for consumer home loan distribution, product, marketing, pricing, enablement and servicing activities in Australia, with oversight of Asia Pacific mortgage distribution and franchise development. The role also included leadership of the wholesale mortgage business, Origin and the captive lenders’ mortgage insurer, ANZ Lenders Mortgage Insurance Pty Ltd.On starting the role I set about revitalising the business which included upgrading the capability of the leadership team, resetting the strategy to focus on customer acquisition and distribution by simplifying the product, pricing and application processes (“one product set, one platform” program), which included terminating and refocussing the technology investments to automation of the origination process, simplifying the product set and pricing structures, and introducing a comprehensive complaints “virtuous cycle” process.Mortgages drove a “structural” cost reduction program to respond to the fundamental shift in the economics and structure of the home loan industry, the cornerstone of which was offshoring of roles.To address a persistent issue of branch mortgage sales, the program called “Making Mortgages Simple" which together with initiatives delivered material sustained increases in market share

I was the Chief Financial Officer of ING Australia Limited following the creation of the ANZ/ING joint venture in 2002. I was responsible for all financial and management reporting for ING Australia to shareholders, regulators and stakeholders.
