Responsible for the design, implementation, security, and maintenance of a government system to search a massive online data repository.

Mr. Capell was the Lead Engineer designing and implementing an enterprise-wide data repository within a government intelligence agency. It was designed to be highly secure and included products such as Oracle 10g Release 2, Oracle Database Vault, Vormetric CoreGuard, and Oracle Advanced Security. Responsibilities included vetting new products and engineering customized, proof-of-concept solutions for clients demonstrating the functionality of the products on Solaris, Windows, and LINUX platforms.

Mr. Capell designed and implemented new database technologies for an enterprise-wide grid solution within a government intelligence agency including products such as Oracle 10g Release 2, Oracle 10g Clusterware, Oracle Database Vault, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10gR2 Grid Control, Veritas Storage Foundations for Oracle RAC, and Veritas NetBackup for Oracle. Responsibilities included vetting new products and engineering customized, proof-of-concept solutions for clients demonstrating the functionality of the products within the new Solaris 10 UNIX infrastructure.

Mr. Capell spent several years not only building the Database Operations for Red Arch Solutions but creating an Information Technology Practice that the government agencies in Virginia know by name, respect, and request people from. Mr. Capell maintained this practice as a Senior Technical Lead, Managing Director, and Mentor guiding junior and senior information technologists through their technical and leadership careers while identifying and acquiring new contracts the practice and the company used to expand. In addition, Mr. Capell was a Senior Database Engineer responsible for designing and implementing new database technologies for an enterprise-wide grid solution within a government intelligence agency. Responsibilities included vetting new products and engineering customized, proof-of-concept solutions for clients demonstrating the functionality of the products within the new Solaris 10 UNIX infrastructure.

Worked with a team of Database Administrators responsible for the administration of over 300 Oracle schemas on Solaris 8 for Unix central to a government intelligence agency. The databases ranged from Oracle 8i to Oracle 10g and included the following options: Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Oracle Cluster Ready Services (CRS), Oracle Secure Socket Layer (SSL), and Oracle Advanced Security. Responsibilities include architecture, installation and configuration of a prototype Oracle 10g RAC cluster, migrating Oracle 9i RAC data to new cluster, daily monitoring and backups, troubleshooting, and database restoration and recovery as well as introducing and training team on the use of Oracle tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control and Recovery Manager (RMAN).

Administered over 60 Oracle schemas stored on over 30 database instances spanning 13 servers across 3 networks. The servers include Solaris 8 for UNIX, Solaris 9 for UNIX, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. The databases range from Oracle 7 to Oracle 10g and include the following options: Oracle Intermedia, Oracle Text, Oracle Advanced Replication, Oracle Spatial, Oracle 9iAS, Oracle Apache Web Server, and Oracle Advanced Security. Responsibilities included architecture of new High-Availability Oracle Cluster, creation of new database instances, data migration, performance tuning, daily monitoring and backups, security, troubleshooting, database restoration and recovery, patch installation, documentation of standard operating procedures for a classified environment, and the supervision, tasking, and day-to-day management of two junior DBA’s. In appreciation of all my efforts, I received a Certificate of Appreciation from the government client on Oct. 14, 2004.
