As a vital component of the Information Security team within the broader IT organization, we play a crucial role in supporting the internal MathWorks environment. Our core mission is to maintain the organization's safety by proactively identifying, mitigating, and reducing cybersecurity risks. Through our efforts, we ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of our systems and data, thereby enabling MathWorks to continue its industry-leading work without interruption.Responsibilities: •Enhance and expand vulnerability scanning across MathWorks' business applications, infrastructure (servers, containers), CI/CD pipelines, and third-party components.• Lead operational vulnerability management activities, including scanning, triage, and response, especially for expanded scopes and cloud platforms, ensuring compliance.• Assist in cloud-native application security projects.• Automate vulnerability management workflows to increase efficiency and repeatability.• Collaborate with IT and development teams to integrate security practices into the development lifecycle, to enhance DevSecOps capabilities.• Develop and refine security procedures to reflect best practices in vulnerability management and cloud-native security capabilities.

Work with developers and other system engineers to design and build scalable and reliable web infrastructure.Automate infrastructure and application deployment processes using configuration management, application release orchestration tools and programming languages.Design, implement and support observability tool suite across AWS and on-premise applications and infrastructure.Participate in application and infrastructure deployment activities for applications hosted on-premise and in AWS.Support development, test and production environments, and participate in rotating on-call support to ensure high availability of our mission critical web applications.

Worked on a team of 15 engineers and administrators dedicated to the design, maintenance and growth of the IT infrastructure and associated services to meet the needs of our rapidly expanding Software Development organization. In my 9+ years on the team, my major contributions include the following:• Designed, deployed and scaled our global Monitoring solutions for all infrastructure and services we maintain using utilities such as Nagios XI and Splunk. • Designed, procured and deployed Storage solutions using OpenSolaris and ZFS technologies to meet the needs of our rapidly growing organization. Supported the migration of multiple Petabytes of data across 100’s of file servers and provide operational support and maintenance.• Maintained a lead role in Data Center Management in support of all on-premise hardware presence including 45 cabinets of hardware. Managed multiple Data Center migrations over the course of 5 years, each with minimal downtime of services to our customers.As of May 2017, I was promoted to a Senior Team Lead position and managed a group of 5 engineers. My major responsibilities and skills developed in this role include:• Functioning as the lead Project Manager establishing timelines and ownership for projects. Regularly consulting with senior management on our absolute priorities while maintaining a reliable infrastructure with day-to-day operational tasks. • Providing senior level technical support for difficult to solve problems, escalating and establishing collaboration with additional supporting teams and management as needed. • Supporting individual career growth opportunities for my team, seeking training and work opportunities relevant to their job function and technical interests.

In this position, my role was focused directly on Linux administration of our large high-performance compute environment. This is the core infrastructure used by our Development organization to build and test our software such as MATLAB and Simulink. In my 5 years in this role, my major accomplishments included:• Development of an automated installation service to deploy and upgrade Linux Operating Systems across a pool of ~1100 desktops and servers. This provided rapidly available deployments and upgrades, while also providing a reliable platform for our Development organization. This effort also considerably reduced the administrative costs for deploying and upgrading these systems.• Designed and deployed a log collection service using Splunk to facilitate advanced detection of system level issues in support of providing a stable platform. In collaboration with team members, I extended this service to our Windows and Mac hosts as a global solution, eventually extending it to additional infrastructure such as Storage servers and VMWare ESX Hypervisors.• Managed and established standards in our Data Center Linux, Mac and Windows compute infrastructure including designing and deploying racking and cabling standards, implementing hardware inventory tracking, hardware replacement policies.
