• Formalised and owned the Company Budgeting process, based on granular engagement with Managers. • Implemented a monthly rolling forecast regime, from GM to EBITDA to promote accountability. • Relationship building - Worked with senior Stakeholders to drive and improve performance by providing guidance and insight into business practices and outcomes• Creation and presentation of MI for Board meetings. Streamlined existing pack to improve impact.• Dashboard Management - Identified and reported KPI’s across the business.• Produced detailed monthly Gross Margin and OPEX reports, with a focus on reducing the business cost base and improving product margins.• Reporting on headcount by FTE per division and formulating direct labour charges for Project Costing and profitability analysis.• Ownership, maintenance and policing of the company Nominal Ledger, defining reporting hierarchies and Cost Centres.• Initiated analysis of employee Travel and Expenditure. Reduced T&E costs by 15% by highlighting waste, inefficiencies and unnecessary journeys.• Revamped Overtime expenditure analysis and justification. Achieved 10% YoY cost savings on an annual base of £1.4m

• Delivery of accurate and timely management accounts including Balance Sheet analysis and reconciliation.• Inventory Management with an emphasis on identifying and disposing of obsolete stock with minimal cost to the business. Ensuring that the latter carried an appropriate provision in the accounts. • Integral involvement in the implementation of Access Dimensions / Focal Point accounting package. Developed bespoke reports to enable Financial reporting and production of the monthly Management Accounts• Mentored junior colleagues and ran training sessions on Excel skills and Power Point presentations. During this period of self - employment, I had 2 main contracts with Azzurri Communications, Burnley and Gaskell Carpets Ltd, Rishton (nr Blackburn)• Provided enhanced MI from the incumbent Sage software.• Set up Ledger structures to reflect changing business patterns to maximise reporting capabilities.• Staff training in Sage usage and general improvements in accounting best practices.

Part of the Gaskell Floor Coverings Group which manufactured Axminster and Tufted Carpets, Carpet tiles and Underlay across 5 sites. Still trading today as Gaskell Mackay Ltd. Based in Hartlepool and Kidderminster.• Managed the Finance Dept. producing subsidiary accounts for Head Office• Supervision, Learning and Development of 5 staff• Sales Contribution & Margin analysis. Cash Flow reporting

• Assisted in the implementation of Sage Line 500 and the Tetra CS/3 ERP System.• Formulated the Company budgets for each manufacturing plant. Principal remit was to control and reduce the Company’s manufacturing cost base.• Job Costing of Axminster production.• I introduced Factory Operating statements to aid in the understanding of manufacturing variances• Revised the Standard Costing system and variance analysis mechanism

The Carleton site (nr Skipton) was a vertically integrated production plant, where wool was dyed, blended, carded and spun into the yarn from which tufted carpet was produced.• Production of Management accounts for factory• Valuation of Raw Materials, Direct Labour, WiP, Finished Goods for both yarn and carpet.• Creation of Manufacturing budgets. Job & Product costing of batch items made for stock or customer bespoke production.

Man. Accts preparation - Accruals & prepayments. VAT returns, EC Sales lists / Intrastat. Consolidated the company Fixed Asset Register onto bespoke software. (Previously run on spreadsheets).
