Taught students how to design for metal fabrication using 3D software (Rhino 6). The four-part course began by introducing students to the benefits and shortcomings of CAD from a theoretical standpoint before delving into the specific approaches and techniques required for developing an idea into a fully-realized model with shop drawings.

Lead draftsman for an architectural metalworking studio, and manager of complex projects in steel, stainless steel, brass, and aluminum. Digitally design and model each job and produce shop drawings detailing machined, formed, and CNC-manufactured parts. Clients include Greater Philadelphia Area architectural, interior, and exhibit design firms, as well as major retail outfits. Responsible for incoming and outgoing RFQs, RFIs, and estimating project costs. Collaborate with engineers, lighting experts, millwork shops, and other parties; partner with clients and contractors; and direct suppliers and vendors to ensure fabrication and installation adhere to tight construction schedules.

Designer, project manager, and construction administrator for a wide range of programs, involved at all phases of design, and responsible for producing the full set of working drawings. Projects included additions, expansions, and renovations to educational institutions, religious centers, businesses, and private residences. Supervised coordination between third-party civil, structural, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical engineers. Through an iterative design process, projects addressed parking flow and site access, landscaping and hardscaping, improvements to constrained sites, phasing of work, end-user needs, client feedback, accessibility, occupant loads and area calculations. Considerations of aesthetic quality, sustainability, historic merit, and budget were balanced to produce successful results.

Developed the full range of drawings and digital models for a wide variety of architectural programs. Incorporated client feedback while updating the designs, and saw that the necessary changes were made to all relevant documents. Projects included academic, civic, and institutional buildings often pursuing LEED certification.

Drew plans, elevations, sections, and details for small-scale residential projects, usually in the form of renovations or additions with plenty of built-ins and similar structures. Coordinated products, materials, finishes, and other relevant considerations.

Designed and fabricated custom furniture, lighting, products, and architectural details forresidential and commercial clientele. Sourced and maintained shop tools and equipment.

Cooperated with a Baltimore architecture firm to design and manufacture custom furniture for aresidential kitchen. Duties included sketching, planning, CAD modeling, CAM setup, andrecommending materials and fabrication techniques.

Oversaw equipment used in print media such as letterpresses, guillotines, binding machines, and button makers. Ensured proper use and care of the tools are exercised, and assisted other students with the execution of their work as needed.

Maintained the tools, machines, and work-spaces in the model shop; instructed students in the proper use of the equipment and safety precautions in the shop; and troubleshot problems regarding fabrication techniques and construction methods.

Designed with recycled and up-cycled materials, and practiced solving needs and waste-streams simultaneously. Learned processes including fusing plastic sheets into a sew-able “fabric”, die-cutting, and industrial sewing. Visualized projects (products, props, and architectural projects) through sketches, models, and computer renderings, and then created them.
