About Michael Choi
Born in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, Michael W. Choi is a Korean-American music director specializing in writing music for film, animation, games, and new media.He graduated from the Berklee College of Music: Valencia Campus, receiving a Master's degree in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games. His skills include musical composition, arrangement, orchestration, conducting, mixing, and experience in film production skills. He worked with independent directors and artists in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He co-founded a student film production group called KUT Film Production, directing and producing short feature films.During his stay in Los Angles, he kick-started his film music life as an intern for composer Joseph Trapanese in 2018, transitioning to a busy Hollywood environment.Michael Choi participated in the world's finest film music workshops like Hollywood Music Workshop and LAFCI (Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive). He met great mentors like Conrad Pope, Angel Velez, William Ross, Jorge Mester, Emilie Bernstein, Booker White, and Dimitrie Leivici, being influenced by their mastery.He scored his first feature film, "Fallen" directed by Lee Jung-Sub in the following year. The film went on to the Fantasporto 2020, premiering on the world stage and winning the Special Jury Mention Award. Michael returned to South Korea, working closely with director Lee Jung-Sub and his production crew for the next two years, working on feature films and series like "AI Her" and "Zero Contact."Michael Choi scores and continue to experiment with old and new musical genre technologies like the traditional Korean instruments (Gugak) and hybrid scoring of orchestra and synthesizer. As his reputation grew, he started to collaborate with artists like Eunkyo, Min Sihu, Dominik Svoboda, Christopher Heckman, Brandon Lau, Sojin Ryu, Maclaine Diemer, and many more.Currently based in Seoul, South Korea, continuously working as a professional producer, music director, and composer for film, animation, video games, and new media.
