As Director of Marketing, I lead the management, mentorship and marketing initiatives for GEC across Canada, working directly with the partnership to leverage the firm's brand and presence into successful projects and commissions within the world of architecture, planning and design. Collaborating with an integrated team of talented GEC marketing professionals across Canada, my role involves the full-time leadership and delivery of dynamic and innovative Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, award submissions, client presentations, marketing collateral, project reports (from Pre-Design through the Design Development phase), social media campaigns, communications and business development initiatives. In this role, I provide training, coaching and mentorship to each of GEC’s marketing team members to understand and leverage their strengths, maximize their performance and develop their technical competencies for the benefit of the firm’s short and long-term business development objectives. Specifically, I focus on developing and enhancing my team’s abilities to reach their individual potential while ensuring the team works collaboratively, effectively and within a safe, fun and engaged workspace focused on continual learning, growth and most importantly, comradeship. Flexible and adaptive project management, schedule management, and strategic planning initiatives have also been essential tenets to the success of GEC's marketing team.

At PCL, I worked with district management to develop, implement and manage the execution of district marketing and communications strategies that leverages branding, awards, showcase projects, operational excellence and service solutions that support district goals. As a result, I worked directly with major / special / civil departments to provide all required marketing research, development of marketing collateral, presentation preparation and strategic planning.As Marketing Manager I trained / mentored / coached other marketing staff to maximize their performance and develop their technical competencies, specifically within the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite software programs. I also assisted others in creating and developing their individual projects, and ensured that the ‘team-based’ environment was maximized in this regard. I also acted as Project Manager for proposal submissions ($1M - $500M+) and other marketing collateral. During proposals I oversaw the development, communications and monitoring of proposal writing and workflow requirements from EOI / RFI / RFQ / RFP receipt, right to the final submission and ensured that adequate resources were assigned throughout. I worked directly with department staff writing, editing and proof-reading bid submissions. This role demanded multi-faceted managerial leadership in staff management and allocation, project management and strict schedule management.Additionally, I participated in off-site business development efforts for the firm and assisted in marketing and coordination for internal and external events.

Trained in Microsoft SharePoint development and information management.

Created proposal submissions using Adobe Creative Suites for projects of all types (RFP’s, EOI’s, RFQ’s, etc.), budgets ($10,000 - $500 million+) and sizes (small submissions to large-scale, comprehensive P3, national and international submissions).Michael worked on some of the largest commissions across Canada and internationally. He has traveled extensively to assist his firm on proposals within all market sectors across Canada.Worked directly with management on firm-wide marketing content, establishing graphic and written content databases for use in marketing-related material.Named Business Development Leader for Kasian Calgary in 2009, managing and assisting the firm in pursuing architectural opportunities across Canada.

Worked with the Project Manager to monitor and track project work plan, schedule, WIP, and financial reporting updates in MS Project and Excel. Coordinated construction phase progress claim reviews and create labour/ disbursement backup spreadsheets. Assisted in the review of weekly Accounts Receivable reporting and follow up as required by the PM; tracked project related costs and invoices including consultant invoices.Managed Microsoft SharePoint portals for large-scale projects. This role involved administering SharePoint portals for large numbers of users and data types. SharePoint site management included site design, content migration, project data gathering and collaboration.Coordinated and led weekly and monthly meetings; took meeting minutes and related documentation.

Activities included advanced sales bookings and scheduling; managed schedules and led team of ten customer service agents. Marketing activities included attending trade shows and festivals around Calgary. Created an MS Access database for item tracking. Was nominated for the 2005 White Hat Award in Customer Service.
