After being involved in Marketing and Sales for over 20+ years, I have truly gained insight and much experience in the many industries that I have worked in. Advertising was fun, real estate was a learning experience, the IT industry changes monthly, the travel industry is based on demographics that are rarely native to the analyst, the tobacco industry is highly regulated and requires quick thinking and adaptations, and manufacturer marketing is based on marketing support of your strongest revenue channels. Now I am neck deep in "Retail" commercial real estate. It is truly, as a wise CRE man said: “the 18-wheeler of real estate”. Yet, I realize there a plethora of industries that present a whole new set of challenges and problems that only great marketers can fix. But that is what makes marketing great, it's a challenge. It's a challenge to do it, and do it right.Through a marketer's career, they will be presented with decisions that may further the company's goals overnight, but may tarnish the company's vision and one's ethics. This is the beauty of responsible and proper marketing. It is up to the marketer to instill your contribution to the backbone or infrastructure of your company's value chain. In doing so, you will not only exemplify what Marketing is all about, but also leave a mark in your organization that belongs only to you. This is what I do. I enter an organization and ask myself, "how can I leave my mark?"
