Mike is a serial entrepreneur who has used his expertise in engineering and economics for more than 40 years to stimulate development of new aerospace, energy, and transportation technologies. Since September 2020, Mike has led RockeTruck, which is developing advanced zero-emission power systems for mobile electric generators and to power large transportation systems including trucks, buses, rail vehicles, and marine vessels. From 2010 to early 2020, Mike was President & CEO of TransPower, a manufacturer of electric drive systems and components for large commercial vehicles which was acquired by Meritor and subsequently became part of Cummins when Cummins acquired Meritor in 2022.Immediately before founding TransPower, Mike was Director of Commercial Business Development at General Atomics - Electromagnetic Systems Division, where from 2006-10 he helped develop and promote magnetic levitation (maglev), linear motor, and power converter technologies for electric transportation and renewable energy applicationsFrom 1995-2005, Mike was Co-CEO of ISE Corporation, an electric and hybrid vehicle technology company he co-founded. Mike was a catalyst for development of ISE's most innovative and successful products, including its gasoline and fuel cell hybrid drive systems for large transit buses. From 1982 to 1993, Mike was an engineer and program manager at General Dynamics Space Systems Division, where he managed NASA advanced spacecraft studies and helped create the Commercial Atlas launch vehicle program. In 1981-82, Mike worked at NASA Headquarters, where he participated in early planning for NASA's Space Station program. While a student at Stanford from 1976 to 1981, Mike worked as a research assistant on NASA's Summer Study on Space Resources and Space Settlements (1977), taught a course on Space Colonization (1978-79) and founded and led the Stanford Center for Space Development (1978-81). He also performed graduate research on solar power satellites and space manufacturing.Specialties: Mike is a true thought leader with a strong combination of technical and business management skills, including an ability to grasp the "big picture" and predict technological and socioeconomic trends. He has demonstrated the ability to lead and inspire highly motivated professional teams in the conception, development, and marketing of revolutionary new products. Mike's passion is to apply his capabilities to the development of new products that improve our planet's environment and the quality of life for all its inhabitants.

Chief Executive OfficerRocketruck Sep 2020 - PresentRockeTruck, founded in 2020, develops advanced battery-electric and fuel cell-battery power generation systems for mobile power generators and commercial vehicle propulsion.RockeTruck's first major new product is its “Mobile Fuel Cell Generator” (MFCG), currently being developed with grant funding from the California Energy Commission (CEC) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), augmented with an initial private investment. The MFCG uses hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries to deliver large amounts of electrical power on a mobile platform. The MFCG will provide emergency backup power for buildings and neighborhoods during grid power outages such as Public Service Power Shut-off (PSPS) events, and will deliver power when grid power is inaccessible, such as at construction sites and outdoor events.RockeTruck is also designing an electrically-powered chassis for powering large trucks and buses using the same core fuel cell, battery, and energy management control technologies being developed for the MFCG. By the middle of this decade, RockeTruck envisions using these technologies in its own “StarShip” fuel cell-battery truck, an advanced, aerodynamically-shaped Class 8 truck designed to have an operating range of 1,000 miles. In addition to meeting urgent electric power generation and transportation needs, these products will address the global need for reducing emissions of greenhouse gases (as well as other toxic pollutants) by replacing generators and vehicle propulsion systems that use conventional fossil fuels (gasoline, diesel, propane, natural gas) with hydrogen fuel cell and lithium-ion battery systems that produce zero emissions. The building blocks of RockeTruck’s mobile generators and zero emission trucks are the Company’s PowerBox™ generator modules, which package fuel cells and batteries using similar components and integration concepts to serve multiple markets, with minimal design variation, high quality, and affordable costs.

President & CeoTranspower Jan 2010 - Jan 2020Poway, Ca, UsTransPower’s mission is to develop and supply reliable, affordable electric transportation products that offer the greatest possible reductions in:- Global dependence on fossil fuels- All forms of mobile source emissions- Customer life-cycle costsTransPower's strategy is to focus on heavy-duty vehicles — primarily Class 7 and 8 trucks, emphasizing grid-connected battery all-electric propulsion. TransPower is pursuing a dual business model of performing aftermarket vehicle conversions while also selling integrated electric drive system “kits” to truck original equipment manufacturers. Declining battery energy storage costs are making battery-electric trucks more cost-effective to operate, while enabling significant environmental benefits over using fossil fuels. -
Director, Commercial Business DevelopmentGeneral Atomics Aug 2006 - Mar 2010San Diego, Ca, UsResponsible for moving company’s electromagnetic technologies into commercial markets, focusing on “Clean Tech” sector, particularly renewable energy and advanced transportation. Product responsibilities included power conversion equipment, including high-power inverters, for large wind turbines and other utility-scale renewable energy systems; magnetic levitation (maglev) transportation systems for passenger and goods movement; and a broad range of advanced technology motor and generator configurations. Helped develop innovative concepts for using linear motors to propel trains and trucks, reducing reliance on conventional diesel engines. Reported directly to Vice President and head of 400-employee Electromagnetic Systems Division. -
