• Research focus: philosophy of physics, philosophy of computing, general philosophy of science (especially quantum computation and information).

• I developed and maintained (1) desktop applications using C++ and Java, and(2) data warehouse reports (using PL/SQL, MySQL storedprocedures, Perl, as well as Business Intelligence software). I gained experience with Agile methodologies.• I was the primary architect, administrator, and maintainer for one of ourdatabases: a large production MySQL data warehouse consisting of hundreds ofmillions of records. This higher level data warehouse fetched and processedapproximately 4,000,000 events per day from a lower level database. I wasresponsible for writing and maintaining the ETL scripts, keeping thefetch/processing time at an acceptable level, maintaining and optimisingdatabase indexes, scheduling rolling backups, and maintaining a retentionstrategy.

• I developed and maintained real-time software (mostly written in C++) forcomponents of the Ericsson telecommunications network.• I developed and maintained (using Java and C/C++) parsers to parse eventsrecorded by the nodes in the Ericsson telecommunications network intoperformance management databases.• I developed and maintained performance management reports over thesedatabases, using Perl, shell scripts, and Business Intelligence software.• I travelled to customer sites (in Mexico, the USA, and Canada) on variousoccasions to help with the rollout of our software, to troubleshoot databaseissues, and to give training sessions (typically three days long) on our softwareto our customers’ network and radio-frequency engineers.• I was also occasionally called upon to perform the following tasks: Functiontesting, system testing, customer support (3rd line), product integration, andtechnical writing (for some months I had the role of interim technical writer formy group and compiled user and installation manuals which were then shipped with our software).
