Upon being recruited into Tenet Healthcare, I worked as a manager to begin and within one year, I was promoted to a director-level position overseeing entire region. Here, I directed eight HIM Departments in Detroit and Philadelphia, with responsibility for two direct reports, six hospitals, and 187 FTEs in Detroit as well as administrative support for two hospitals and 48 FTEs in Philadelphia. Key Contributions:▸ Evaluated and identified processes to enhance revenue cycle management and assist hospitals with developing and implementing action plans to meet financial goals while maintaining coding accuracy and compliance standards.▸ Restructured Health Information Departments to meet needs of each site, including centralization of HIM leadership, elimination of a layer of management, realignment of reporting responsibilities, and coordination of integrating partial outsourcing.▸ Offered onsite HIM support for system conversions, implementations, and major upgrades. Implementation of multiple systems and corporate driven initiatives included McKesson Horizon Patient Folder, Cerner PowerChart, and 3M 360 Encompass.▸ Coordinated the outsourcing of outpatient coding at 70 hospitals including onboarding and provisioning 500 domestic and international coders and managers with access to 25 different systems.▸ Organized and managed a task force to address the overutilization of STAT dictations in the Detroit market reducing use from 24% to <8%.▸ Implemented assignment of working DRGs at twelve facilities which helped to classify cases and streamline information throughout all sites.▸ Assisted hospitals in recruiting HIM department director positions and provided support to maintain continuity of department operations during periods of vacancy. ▸ Played a key role in the divestiture of five facilities with respect to records and contracts.▸ Collaborated with coding compliance to provide ICD-10 education to coders, CDI staff, and physicians.

I began with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in an Associate Director role, overseeing daily operations including workflow analysis, staffing, coordination of departmental resources, and review of hospital contracts with third-party payers. In 1997, I was promoted into a director-level role, managing daily and long-range activities of the Medical Record Department (with 78 FTEs).
