Section Leader for the Tape Archive and Backup (TAB) section, in the Storage and Data Management group in CERN's IT Department.TAB section's flagship service is the CERN Tape Archive (CTA), which is a mission-critical element of CERN's experimental programme. CTA stores the custodial copy of the complete data output from the four main experiments of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), around a dozen smaller experiments at CERN, and a number of external collaborations. The CTA data archive is currently around 790 Petabytes and is expected to exceed 1 Exabyte during LHC Run-3 (2022-2026).TAB section is also responsible for the Backup and Restore service, which protects many critical services at CERN from the consequences of data loss.

I joined the CERN Tape Archive (CTA) team as a C++/Linux software developer in 2017 and became CTA project leader in 2019. I was responsible for the design, implementation, testing and deployment of CTA’s software components (frontend, scheduler, tape and file catalogue, tape server) as well as integration with the full data transfer software stack.This role required extensive collaboration with the developers of the CERN disk storage system (EOS), the File Transfer Service (FTS), the XRootD protocol stack (SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, USA) and the experiment data management software. See Publications and Conferences for an overview of my main technical contributions.In 2020, I oversaw the commissioning and deployment of the CTA service. This was completed by June 2021, in time for the start of SPS data taking and well in advance of LHC Run-3.During 2019-2021, I was also responsible for migrating all the data from CASTOR, CERN’s legacy archival storage system. The comprised around 600 million files (340 Petabytes) from dozens of experimental collaborations, active and inactive, representing over twenty years of CERN's activity. This role involved extensive planning and engagement with all of the CERN experiments. The project was completed by the end of 2021, paving the way for the CASTOR service to be decommissioned.
