I host and produce the internet talk radio show ‘SHADOW POLITICS’ with my Co-Host Maria Sanchez that airs LIVE every Sunday at 4pm PST/7pm Eastern on the BBS Radio Network. We discuss current events, news makers, and of course, anything that is going on in the world of politics. But most importantly, this is a grass roots talk show giving a voice to the voiceless. For more than 200 years the people of the Nation's Capital have ironically been excluded from the national political conversation. With no voting member of either house of Congress, Washingtonians have lacked the representation they need to be equal citizens and have their voices heard as part of the national conversation. ‘SHADOW POLITICS’ provides a platform for them, as well as the millions of others nationwide who feel politically disenfranchised and disconnected, to be included in a national dialog.I started this show to encourage a new conversation in America, one that is more inclusive and diverse and one that will lead our great nation forward to meet the challenges of the 21st century. We hope to get this conversation started by bringing Americans together to talk about issues important to them. We want to hear from you – give us your point of view by calling in! ‘SHADOW POLITICS’ is about America hearing what you have to say. It's your chance to talk to an elected official who has spent more than 35 years in Washington politics. We believe that if we start a dialog and others add their voices we will create a chorus. Even if those other politicians in Washington don't hear you - I will. Our mission is to start a productive dialog with you, America, to make our democracy stronger and more inclusive. I feel that if we are all part of the solution we can solve any problem! Over the past 3 years the show has cultivated a audience of 8,000 regular listeners.

I work as an advocate for equal rights for the people of the District of Columbia; I mantain an office in City Hall where I work with the Mayor and DC Council on issues that affect the District at the national level. I lobby Congress on behalf of my constituents and help lead a national effort to gain statehood for the Nation's Capital. In 2014 I testified before the United States Senate in support of legislation that would make the District of Columbia the 51st state. I have been a Super-Delegate at the past three Democratic National Conventions. As one of five voting members of the New Columbia Statehood Commission, I recently helped rewrite and pass a new constitution for the District. In addition, I assisted in getting a referendum on the November ballot in support of DC statehood which passed by 80%. I am currently in my second six year term and was re-elected with 207,000 votes, approximately 80% of ballots cast in 2012.

Recently sworn in for a third six year term as U.S. Senator for the District of Columbia. Ending "taxation without representation" in DC is what I work for every day. My name is Michael D. Brown and since 2006 I have served the people of the District of Columbia as their United States Senator.No salary, little funding and just recently a law was passed that will provide matching funds for candidates – but my office was purposely left out because it represents the interests of the people and not that of the elected officials that created the law. Elected like all other senators (receiving nearly 185,000 votes in the last election), I serve a six-year term representing the citizens of the District.My job is to secure equal rights for the 700,000 hard-working, tax-paying Americans who live in our nation’s capital and have no voice because they have no vote.Since 1801, DC residents have been denied the basic civil rights of full citizenship – even though they pay the highest per capita taxes in America, serve in the military at higher than the national average and in every way have been exemplary citizens for more than 200 years.We are the only country in the world that does this and I fight every day to end this tyranny of taxation without representation.

I ran a national Direct Mail consulting firm, which I founded, for twenty-five years. The firm worked for politicians, public Interest groups and candidates. My company participated in many national campaigns including four Presidential campaigns.In addition, we did work for the federal government and also trained candidates who wanted to run for public office in the use of direct mail in their campaigns. I have also lectured students at local universities on the use of direct mail in politics. We worked on many successful programs, like the DNC state party mail program, which grew from 50,000 pieces of mail a year to over 5,000,000 a year in the ten years we helped manage the program. My small firm billed in excess of one million dollars annually and often received praise from clients for its work.

I managed a national nonpartisan research and policy non-profit. I improved benefits for employees while reducing costsI, computerized operations and expanded the staff in the 18 months I was there. I was also the Chief Administrator for the Defense Budget Project, a semi-autonomous arm of the Center. The center worked on poverty and other federal budget issues and has always been one of the most well respected non-profit organizations in its field. Over the years it has grown to over 100 employees and has become one of the top public interest groups in Washington. I am proud that I was the first Administrative Director of this great organization before I left to start my own consulting firm.

I was reponsible for all in house direct mail programs for the Democratic National Committee. I also supervised a staff of five. During my time in this position our in-house donor file grew from 50,000 to 500,000 and direct mail became the primary funding source of the National Democratic Party. I was part of the working group that brought the first in-house computer system to the National Democratic Party and also a special assistant for the 1980 and 1984 National Conventions. I helped organize fundraising around the DNC's first national telethon and served as special assistant to the comptroller. After leaving the DNC my company, Horizon Communications, latter became a vendor to the Democratic Party for more than 20 years.
