Responsible for the design and installation of Flexible Laboratory Automation systems throughout the various Merck divisions. Developed a general purpose laboratory controller capable of performing 'lights out' analysis of pharmaceuticals by integrating and coordinating laboratory equipment and instruments from different vendors.

Designed next generation systems and components for the LEGO toy lines. Primarily responsible for modifying and expanding the Technic group of functional models. Some of the topics under investigation included actuator design, sensor integration, controllers, and computer interfaces. Designed and built a fully functional remote controlled car with collision avoidance and position sensing.

Principal investigator for a Department of Energy sponsored project researching the benefits associated with active force reflection to control robot systems in nuclear power plants. Analyzed the dynamics of a mobile robot used for beer production with three 5 DOF manipulator arms, and developed algorithms for its real-time simulation and control. Specified and detailed the electromechanical design of a laser-based location identification system used for autonomous guidance in combat.
