Michael Orange is a biodefense professional with foreign language experience, currently serving as the Deputy Director for Medical Acquisition with the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) JPM CBRN Medical. This team's focus in to provide U.S. military forces and the Nation with safe, effective, and innovative medical solutions to counter CBRN threats. The JPM CBRN Medical facilitates the advanced development and acquisition of medical countermeasures and systems to enhance the Nation’s biodefense response capability. In this role, Mr. Orange serves as advisor for the properintegration of the DoDI 5000.02, Defense System Acquisition, with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) processes. His overall goals are to address local health security issues while having a broader impact, make the United States a safer place, and serve with quiet patriotism. Prior to joining the JPEO-CBRND, Mr. Orange served as the Medical Research, Development, and Acquisition (RDA) Task Lead, supporting the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Chemical and Biological Defense (ODASD(CBD)). Mr. Orange graduated from St. Vincent College in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, as well as two minors in Spanish Literature/Conversation and Psychology. In 2018, he completed his Master of Science in Biohazardous Threat Agents & Emerging Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University. This graduate program focused on diseases facing the global community, whether such threats occur naturally or are purposefully designed (i.e. bioterrorism).Mr. Orange has professional and educational experience that encompasses the following areas: 1) RDA of understand (diagnostics), protect (vaccines), and mitigate (therapeutics) portfolios; 2) countering weapons of mass destruction (CWMD), 3) global health security; 4) Tableau BI Software (data visualization) as an epidemic intelligence tool; 5) biosafety (e.g. BSL-1, 2, 2+, 3 laboratory inspections to verify compliance with government regulatory agencies); 6) foundational scientific research (microbiology, immunology, emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases); 7) Spanish-to-English translation; 8) and policy and regulatory frameworks of areas such as biosecurity, AIxBio, and One Health.
