Very accomplished, senior railway engineering professional with diverse leadership experience gained over 35 years in the rail industry including, engineering and safety strategy, policy and standards, de-centralisation and vertical integration, project management, infrastructure feasibility studies and the delivery of complex multidisciplinary infrastructure (new build and maintenance) contracts in the railway environment. International experience includes time spent and projects delivered in Sweden, Egypt, East Africa, Brazil, South Africa and India. Proven track record of delivering projects to a high standard, on time and to budget, implementing change and performance management programmes. Broad Railway experience was founded on a British Rail management training scheme and experience in civil engineering, permanent way and structures. Having had responsibility for all elements of the infrastructure life cycle i.e. feasibility, design, funding, construction, commissioning, maintenance, incident investigation and decommissioning / removal, across most elements of the railway system, Michael has a rare, holistic but strategic understanding of the rail sector.
