He has served as a professor, researcher, director, and consultant at some of the world’s most prominent universities, philanthropies, and development agencies. Michael’s professional accomplishments span applied research and scholarship, international thought leadership through speaking and writing, convening and field-building, curriculum development and training, advising, and much more. This Chair honors the philanthropic legacy and civic investment of W.K. Kellogg, founder of the Kellogg Company and W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Kellogg Chair was established with a gift from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Kellogg Company 25-Year Employees’ Fund.

As Senior Program Specialist, I performed analytical, planning and support activities associated with the development of the Foundation’s thematic area called Community Asset Mobilization (CAM). I also played an important role in the Building Broader Communities in the Americas (BBCA) initiative, which seeks to create a transnational network of community foundations and stakeholders throughout the Western Hemisphere to address local and regional challenges. In addition to the IAF, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation provides funding and CFLeads is the implementing partner.

Working with a leading research center and capacity-building organization in Mexico City, I assisted in the development, planning, and execution of research projects and consultancies related to the nonprofit sector and philanthropy. I led the research on Mexico's contribution to the Harvard Kennedy School's initiative, the Global Philanthropy Report, contributed to a study of Mexico's community foundation sector and to chapters in the book, Generosidad en Mexico.

Director, Proyecto sobre Filantropía y Sociedad Civil (Philanthropy and Civil Society Project), which produced a series of groundbreaking, theoretically rigorous and empirically rich studies on public opinion, nonprofit financing, and the fiscal framework for philanthropy. We also provided services as consultants to the Kellogg Foundation, United Way International, Packard Foundation, Hispanics in Philanthropy, among others.
