My firm provides tax credit application services. One of our major areas of expertise is the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (“SR&ED”) program. While we focus on manufacturers and companies who have undertaken a significant technology project or projects regardless of whether or not they are “technology companies” , since SR&ED claims are activity-specific and not business or industry-specific, almost any business has the potential to successfully claim SR&ED tax credits. Some of the many successful claims we have prepared presented the following projects:• Create a generic process to exchange data between various databases, uncommon file types and across hardware platforms• Create a streaming video exchange, allowing real-time viewing of conversation between parties• Design and build the architecture and tools to create and configure dynamic web pages to facilitate the retrieval from and entry of data to any application data model• Create plastic versions of formerly metal-only parts to increase the potential uses of the part.As manager, I • Review the technical reports to ensure they explain the projects clearly and meet the necessary requirements for a successful SR&ED claim• Meet with clients and potential clients to explain the program and help them to prepare the background information required to present a claim• Liaise with Canada Revenue Agency (“CRA”) officials to answer their questions • Defend claims in meetings with CRA. As a firm, we research, prepare, submit and defend SR&ED claims. • We also prepare and submit Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (“OIDMTC”) claims that are available to Ontario companies that produce multi-media products for sale or licence to multiple arms’ length third parties.

My company focussed on corporate communications. We developed websites, and created catalogues, brochures, logos and business cards. Our clients ranged from clothing manufacturers, to professional associations to promotional product companies. I was responsible for client acquisition and management. I also hired and managed the staff, and was responsible for the financial operations of the company.
