Jewel is a licensed full-service bank in Bermuda servicing both digital asset businesses and more traditional companies, in Bermuda and globally. Jewel will provide traditional currency banking services along with a stablecoin-based payments & settlement system, ultimately facilitating access to both traditional payment rails and blockchain-enabled payment rails over a single APIAs Jewel's interim CTO from May 2019 to May 2021, I was responsible for managing the product definition, technical build, testing, and dev-sec-ops teams towards building and operating a world-class, open-banking infrastructure. In addition, I was Jewel's primary technical representative to the Bermuda Monetary Authority, its regulator.As Jewel's strategic technology advisor, I continue to advise the bank's COO on IT systems and infrastructure while focusing on new products in the digital asset space.

Frank Financial was an ambitious de novo bank with the purpose of creating a legitimate, legal structure around the issuance, redemption, and lifecycle of USD-denominated bank deposits dematerialized on blockchain platforms. Modeled after a financial market utility to work with banks of all types and sizes, the goal was to create base-layer infrastructure in the USA to support transfers of bank deposits on-chain with immediate settlement, adhering to all typical bank regulations and AML, KYC, and counter-terrorism financing controls. While successful in its regulatory approach and design, Frank Financial dissolved after not being able to raise enough seed funds to last through the application phase. FDIC rules are strict about how a bank raises equity funds and this ended up being a key challenge in the formation of the institution.As CIO, I was responsible for the team who defined, designed, and built the core set of bank products, using 4 major protocols: R3's Corda, Hyperledger Fabric, Ethereum, and Stellar. As a key member of the executive team, I worked with our investors, regulators, and partner ecosystem to create a true "Digital Bank."
