I started my career as a data engineer in the technology industry using predictive models to enhance computer chip manufacturing. After getting my graduate and medical degrees, my life’s work has been directed towards using my knowledge of technology and analytics to improve healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, and population health.I helped to develop and lead an analytics center of excellence for one of the largest non-profit health systems in the South East. My success in transforming this health system into a data driven provider was highlighted by Harvard Business School as a case study in 2015.I have led data driven healthcare initiatives covering a wide spectrum of healthcare delivery and public health. Examples include: (i) deploying a readmission risk model across the acute care environment; (ii) using predictive models and decision support to enhance care delivery for high-risk patients with chronic illness; (iii) integration of social and health data to support the community health assessment process; (iv) creation of a risk segmentation engine to advance care management; and (v) predicting primary care access needs for vulnerable populations. Most recently, I helped to develop and lead an Academic - Public Health partnership designed to address the most pressing public health needs for Mecklenburg County, NC. This partnership, The Academy for Population Health Innovation (APHI) has been involved with projects across the spectrum of public health including: (i) HIV Prevention; (ii) Mosquito Surveillance; (iii) Access to Contraception; (iv) Integration of Behavioral Health Services; (v) Vaccine Delivery; (vi) Tobacco Policy; and (vii) Public Health Informatics.
