At COVVI I have been working with the world-leading multi-articulated prosthetic COVVI Hand. I have been working within the design team to overcome manufacturing and production issues, and more recently have been working with the quality team to improve internal quality procedures and practices. These activities have involved concept design, production.

I worked at Sewtec Automation as a mechanical designer producing concept designs, detail drawings and modifications to existing machines. I developed my design and detailing skills through producing engineering drawings of both reproduced parts and novel parts, working to the standards of BS8888. I also gained experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics.

I spent a year working with the Technical Governance and Control team in the Central Manufacturing function of Rolls-Royce PLC. The team has responsibility for updating Rolls-Royce’s manufacturing processes and for introducing new technologies to the company, among other tasks. The work involved is high-level and so taught me a lot about the organisation.

This internship with engineering consultancy ReSolve ran for 8 weeks, and involved work on a variety of tasks. These ranged from designing a biopsy tool using SolidWorks, to using a 3D printer to create prototype models of part designs.
