Recruited by the late Indiana Congressman Jim Jontz in July of 2006, I stepped into a situation where the organization had lost its lead organizer for the region. I was able to continue the work and reach the targets that had been set by ADA and WFW. While our candidate lost the election, some great organizing was accomplished in the volatile 6th District of Minnesota's US Congressional District.

Strategically canvassed over 3000 doors with my campaign platform and literature. Raised $10,000 through personal solicitations and a series of 6 public fund-raising events. Managed a volunteer crew of 12 to oversee the operation and implementation of my campaign. Nearly upset the 4-term incumbent commissioner through intensive grassroots networking. Ran as a candidate for a county-wide public office against a 4-term incumbent in a spirited campaign for the 3-person executive and legislative branch of the county government (County Commissioner). Advanced my visioning, public speaking, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Utilized my listening, writing and editing skills to their fullest potential. My extreme attention-to-detail, along with my other skills and abilities, helped me to nearly upset my opponent in a highly-contested, but respectful race. The final tally resulted in a 49% - 51% loss (out of over 47,000 votes cast), but the lessons I learned about myself and life were priceless.
