I have written communication drivers in C/C++ for Cyberlogic’s product suites to bring data into Windows-based computers from devices over a variety of industrial networks, including Modbus TCP, Allen-Bradley CSP, and EtherNet/IP.I also had the opportunity to maintain and improve other products, such as adding support for the Rockwell Automation USB to Data Highway Plus adapter to the Serial DHX Driver. I also wrote the CLX DirectImport module for the Cyberlogic DHX OPC Server which reduces the customer’s configuration time by importing tag data directly from Logix processors.While at Cyberlogic, I also developed communication channels for Siemens for their WinCC HMI, a DDE server for Ingersoll-Rand to read data from a MicroTAS controller, and a monitoring application for Schneider Electric to interact with controllers running their Modicon State Language.I worked with our customers on an almost daily basis, answering pre-sales questions, and providing technical support over the telephone and through email.As a technical editor and writer, I produced help files, technical support articles, release notes, application design documents, and web pages.I maintained Windows-based Exchange, VPN, IIS, and file servers. I’ve automated a number of maintenance tasks, like analyzing log files and compressing backups, using scripts written in C#, Perl, Python, and Windows cmd and batch languages. I also kept the OpenBSD-based failover firewalls, wireless router, and VOIP system running.

At AEG, I wrote the Tool Management System which tracked tool lifetime in manufacturing environments. In addition, I developed Intel x86 assembly language programs running as terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) applications in the DOS environment. One of these patched a stack-overflow bug in a third party TSR that was causing system crashes.I fixed a bug in the Modicon BM85E Bridge Mux firmware that was causing an error code to be lost which caused the error LED to work incorrectly.I was given the opportunity to work on a FactoryLink HMI system that was used to monitor and control production at a glass manufacturing plant. This included writing custom C code.

Part of the requirement for receiving a BSEE at GMI Engineering and Management Institute was to receive practical experience by co-oping for 6 months each year.In addition to making copies and getting coffee for my department, I performed various duties including software development in both C and Intel x86 assembly.
