Sonnet Financial was a Foreign Exchange provider that would aggregate currency buying and selling orders for international payments. Small companies could open the Sonnet web page and be guaranteed the best exchange rate at a very low transaction cost. My role was to extend the Foreign Exchange trading service to the web, improve web based security, and improve the FX trading order entry system. This was an amazing opportunity to watch not only how a traditional manual process is automated but also moved onto the internet. A lot of innovations from a very small company in a very large market.

Apple was building a new Corporate Network Team that would allow the Macintosh to connect to IBM mainframe computers via cable. I led the team that made the first 3278 card for the OpenMac that showed Corporate America that Apple was serious about business... After the protocol products, I was responsible for integrating Japanese, Chinese, and Korean on the Macintosh with the KanjiTalk 6.0.4 release. First time to have Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Roman characters on a single document. Major milestone for Apple and resulted in rapid growth in Pacific Sales over the next 2 years.

Recruited by NEC to work at Tomagawa Factory outside of Tokyo developing high speed diagnostic modem communication protocol. I was the only 'gaijin' in a factory of 3,500 Japanese. Great experience - became fluent in Japanese.

Developed some of the very early implementions of Bisync (Binary Synchronous Communication) switches. All work done in assembler with very limited RAM and CPU hardware. Succeeded at getting 100 packets a second through the switch and made Telematics a leader in network architecture and switches. Then moved on to doing the same for IBM's SNA network protocol.
