Michael Faughnan is a Managing Director at Stifel after First Empire was acquired in December 2018. He has over 30 years experience in Sales, Trading, and Analysis in the Capital Markets industry with an emphasis on Institutional Fixed Income Portfolios and interest-rate risk management strategies. He spent over 7 years at Bear Stearns & Co having initially gone through their bank management program headed by Frank Fabozzi, which included work at the ABA Stonier School of Banking at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He worked in various capacities including Whole Loan packaging, Fixed Income Sales & Trading.His trading experience includes several years trading MBS, ARMs, Collateralized Mortgage Obligations, Agency CMBS, SBAs, and other Taxable Fixed Income products. He has expertise in broad Asset/Liability Management issues, working with institutional accounts on controlling interest rate risk exposures, and seeking improved returns. He started and built out the Fixed Income Trading desk at First Empire Securities, as well applied his experience in the industry to set up various departments such as ALM, Financial Strategies Group, Regulatory Support, and Portfolio Accounting to assist in providing value to an Institutional Sales effort with Financial Intermediaries. He has published numerous articles, spoken at many trade-group related conferences, and addressed many boards on various risk management strategies through the years on various fixed income portfolio topics.He earned his BS degree in Economics at Iona College.
