Systems Architect - DevopsTheplatform (Now Comcast Technology Solutions) Oct 2012 - Feb 2015I arrived at thePlatform challenged with the objectve of better automating the monitoring of applications and systems as well as being part of a seed ‘DevOps’ group that was charged with transforming the company’s IT systems and processes. Depending on what was going on I was typically liasoned to various teams and the majority of my significant contributions were part of cross-team initiatives.Achievements:- Recognized the need for a CMDB or similar to enable the company to move forward. Created a conceptual enterprise data model which later blossomed into an internal product known as the Cloud Configuration Data Service.- Continuously researched and followed industry trends in regards to automated monitoring systems and eventually settled on leveraging the open source Sensu project as the basis for the company’s needs. This became an internal product known as the Sensu Monitoring System.- Coordinated closely with operations in regards to modernizing infrastructure and provisioning systems. Work here became an internal product known as the Cloud Orchestration Web Service.Along the way:- Moved the company from Zenoss 2 Enterprise as their primary monitoring/alert system to Zenoss 4 Core as a stop gap measure to make monitoring systems more reliable until better solutions could be found.- Performed analysis of as-built systems and services in order for the company to rapidly provision their base line suite of over 60 different services with around 140 configurations across 300+ hosts and associated dependencies in a new European data center. Worked with senior operations personnel to leverage this data source with their toolsets and automate the entire build/deploy process in a simple and effective way that exceeded business expectations.- Worked with developer and operational stakeholders to design, tune and provide operational management tooling and practices for the deployment of ElasticSearch.- Various other initiatives as directed or needed.

Including specifics such as managing contractors for aerial and underground fiber builds, negotiating with Cities and Port Authorities for franchise agreements, other private dark fiber providers and working with commercial property owners to determine ROI on fiber builds to their properties. Other than the first few years the company was generally on ‘auto pilot’ and required only a few hours a month of my time. New partners assumed a majority interest in the company in May 2015 and I sold my remaining minority interest to them in December 2015.
