The Division of Monetary Affairs is responsible for research and analysis to support the Board and the Federal Open Market Committee in the conduct of monetary policy, especially in the areas of finance, money and banking, and monetary policy design and implementation. The Division also provides expertise on open market operations, discount window policy, and reserve markets.

Formulated and supervised the implementation of investment strategies for US$22 billion in assets of endowments and trusts that support the Fund's budget and concessional lending.Provided training and consulting in economic management and financial analysis to officials of the IMF's member countries at the regional training centers in Vienna, Singapore, and Dalian. Conducted macroeconomic and financial market surveillance and provided economic policy advice in support of the US$30 billion IMF loan facility with Brazil, the restructuring of US$1.1 billion in external debt of the Dominican Republic, and bilateral consultations with Panama, Suriname, and Iceland.
