Principal7 Degree - Design Management Consultancy Oct 2007 - Nov 2017I founded 7 Degree to develop and deliver a service offer and workshops based on my Master’s thesis ‘Strategic Branded Experiences’. The purpose was to enable businesses to be able to translate the company’s strategic intent into a physical built environment that does a lot of the heavy lifting in helping business to achieve its financial goals.The consultancy provided advice and feasibility studies on strategy, leadership, and innovation – specifically in vision blueprinting, brand principles establishment and branded experiences.In addition I delivered 3 workshops based on helping clients to: -• strategically identify ‘the X factor’ of their businesses (this being the intersection between the emotional and rational engagement with their customers) that were competent in being able to deliver on. • develop and map out their customer experience journey granularly – identifying the critical touchpoints (Moments of Trust) that will enable their customers to move to the next touchpoint confidently based on ‘the X factor’ competencies of their business.• provide an in-depth program called Smart Engagement based on the 2 above workshops to support clients to build a solid strategy to deliver a consistent branded experience that could be embedded into the whole of their organisation.The majority of work I did was in retail, hospitality, manufacturers, shopfitters, as well as architects, financial advisors, security, and transport logistics. This division translated two dimensional brands into the three dimensional physical built and retail environments. In this regard we lead the way bringing brands alive through immersive brand experiences. -
Principal2Md Design Consultancy Aug 1992 - Oct 2006I founded 2MD Design in 1992. It became an award-winning retail design agency in New Zealand, working with all the major retailers across all sectors including shopping centres, supermarkets, department stores, and big box retailing. I also worked in the field of main street specialty, and office parks. I wrote feasibility studies on proposed residential sub-division as well as peer reviews armed with recommendations in the banking sector. In 1993, I introduced to my clients the concept of mapping the customer ‘emotional’ journey. This was from the point of becoming aware of the retail brand through to becoming advocates/ambassadors. The thrust of this concept was to deliver an immersive shopping experience that resulted in them wanting to come back again and again. The results achieved added on average around 17%-23% in annual turnover.This approach enabled me to reimagine how customers purchased instore.I was a representative on the Designers Institute of New Zealand board. I was a judge on the Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Awards and Retail Design Awards on numerous occasions.I was a keynote speaker delivering the following talks: -• Branding the store experience – NZ• Image has impact – NZ• Moments of Trust (Soul Emergence) – International Thought Leaders Conference – Phoenix, Arizona USAI was a Trustee for the Main Street Trust for New Zealand, providing advice and seminar presentations to retailers.
