Wrote the User Guide for the Event Insight REST API.Offered a full-time position as a Full-Stack Software Engineer after graduation.Learn more: michaelgokeefe.github.io/Portfolio/Validar.html
  • University Of Washington, Bothell
Augmented / Virtual Reality Research Software Engineer
University Of Washington, Bothell Aug 2016 - Jun 2017
    Bothell, Wa, Us
Worked closely with my partner, Shen Li, to constructed a networking prototype (Unity, C#, Photon) that uses synchronized game rooms to allow many AR/VR devices (Rift, Vive, HoloLens, and Kinect) to collaborate in a virtual representation of a physical space created by HoloLens’ room scanning functionality. Implemented TCP connection setup through remote procedure calls, removing the need for hard-coded IP addresses. Troubleshot network latency issues by testing socket connections, allowing HoloLens to share scans of a physical environment.Created a User Guide and five Demo Projects for AR/VR developers, so they can use the prototype and focus on content creation. Co-authored a research paper about the project that was published by the IEEE in June 2017.After my graduation, Shen and future students built upon the project by incorporating Microsoft Azure and Kinect environment scanning to become one of twelve Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017 finalists. • University Of Washington, Bothell
Parallel / Distributed File System Developer
University Of Washington, Bothell Jun 2015 - May 2017
    Bothell, Wa, Us
Designed Parallel I/O for the Multi-Agent Spatial Simulation Library and implemented the open, read, and close functionality with support for text and NetCDF (climate data) files. Utilized distributed computing nodes, multi-core processors, and caching to access all portions of a file in parallel thus increasing the open and read performances. Debugged and tested the library using one to fifteen computing nodes by creating a separate test and assertion application.Documented the API and taught a Master’s student, Jas Shih, how to utilize it so she could implement the write functionality and incorporate HDFS.Learn more: michaelgokeefe.github.io/Portfolio/Mass.html
