Acutus Medical is a small San Diego publicly traded (AFIB) medical device company focused on breakthrough technologies in electrophysiology. We have received FDA clearance and the CE mark for our Class II and Class III medical devices.The pandemic has been a challenge AND a great learning opportunity and inspiration! We have mastered the use of Microsoft Teams (and Zoom) to enable us to be very productive in a completely remote environment. Over 9 years, I have transitioned from the main software architect and contributor to the senior director of a group (10) of highly talented software engineers and testers. I created a very effective phone screen and interview process to help us build our team. I have overseen the creation of our DevOps process for CI/CD (GoCD), bug tracking (JIRA), code reviews (Crucible), and requirements tracking (JIRA/Synapse).I work very hard at keeping the software team on track, on time, and happy (mostly). We follow an Agile process as much as we can with respect to following ISO 13485 and IEC 62304. Our project planning uses Microsoft Project and ProChain in a challenging fast environment.I am the voice of Software to the business and the voice of the business to the Software team, while making sure that our team has the best tools and the best hardware.I work very closely with our Marketing folks, scientist, and our end customers, to drive requirements definition and make sure we get the latest, coolest features into the software in a timely manner without costly defects. We spend a lot of time coordinating with our staff of PhD's on how we should transfer their great ideas into fast, defect-free software.

Continuation of the development of the software organization at Digirad at a very hands-on level. The main thrust was the creation of a new product for surgery. This includes: • Staffing and project planning for the software development group covering up to 8 direct reports. Balance has been 40% development and 60% management.• Created all Software policies and procedure for development and QA• Implemented Agile best practices via SCRUM.• Complete software development process specification with FDA guideline conformance.• Increased focus on customer-driven requirements analysis including credentialing to attend breast and melanoma surgeries.

Created several new products to support the new gamma cameras that Digirad created including SQL server-based imaging database application with full DICOM connectivity.• Successful launch of several major software upgrades to the field (> 1000 customers).• All software development tasks including: real-time data acquisition and image-processing algorithms using Visual Studio .NET C++/C#//MFC/ActiveX and Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/Win 7.• Installation, creation, and administration of the Rational tool suite for requirements management, source-code control, and bug tracking.

Digirad produces a solid-state digital nuclear medicine camera for patient imaging. I was hired to create the software organization at Digirad. The main task was to replace 3rd party software they were using that had a high financial cost as well as grow the software group. Created all of the processes necessary in a FDA regulatory environment.

Marconi Medical produces several cameras/scanners used for patient imaging.• Direct software development included image filtering, color scale manipulation, and interpolation.• Principle functions were to specify, architect, design, and implement a new medical imaging workstation based on Windows2000 for Nuclear Medicine. Related responsibilities were headcount and resource planning, recruitment, training the current staff in all advanced skills, estimating total effort using software development models, pilot programs, architecture investigations/evaluations, and setting C++ coding standards. Was responsible for 4 direct reports.

Real-time industrial control using Windows NT/CE, Visual C++, MFC and Access. Management duties (50%) include: control of 5 software engineers, administration of employee evaluations, salary increases, career planning, project planning, and reporting to President of company.
