I'm a hands-on technology leader that helps organizations that are large enough to need strategic vision, but where everyone (leader inclusive) to roll up their sleeves and deliver value. My aim is to be the translator between technology and business needs -- to be the most technically competent business manager (or said differently, the most business-savvy technologist) -- so that organizations end up with solutions that work. I work hard to demystify techno-babble and provide transparent metrics so that stakeholders really understand the ground truth and can make informed decisions. If your tech stack doesn't work for your business, or you're overspending on technology, or you have unsuccessful projects, let's talk about how I can help. Some favorite sayings, usually in the context of addressing an issue:1. "I'd rather be admonished for something I did than something I didn't do." I have a strong bias for action and want my team to proactively push forward. We might misstep on the way, especially when we're on the leading/bleeding edge of technology, but my teams swing on strike three and never throw a "look-out block."2. "Technology exists to solve a problem. Identify the problem and solve it." Far too many people get dazzled by technology bling and get distracted from remembering that technology is only here to help businesses be more productive and consumers to get something of value (productivity, entertainment, etc). There are too many examples of wasting money on excess technology -- if your business only needs a pair of roller skates, why are you purchasing a self-driving car? Wouldn't that capital be better deployed elsewhere?3. "Technology is a guilty-until-proven-innocent" business. Be very aware of anyone claiming: "It's okay, trust me." Our job in technology is to prove that we're delivering value, that the functionality is working correctly, and that the results are accurate. If I can't factually demonstrate/prove competence, why would I expect anyone believe me when I profess it.

Chief Information OfficerBlackboard Apr 2015 - May 2016Boca Raton, Florida, UsMost senior IT leader reporting into the Chief Financial officer for Blackboard, a ~$700M private-equity backed software and services leader in the education space. Came into the organization as a change-agent to improve IT alignment and delivery.Responsible for all IT functions and systems including enterprise software (Oracle ERP, Peoplesoft, Salesforce, PROS CPQ, email), physical infrastructure (office/desktop technology, twelve data centers, two call centers, and various networks). Sr. Director + VariousSirius Xm Radio Inc. Mar 2006 - Mar 2015New York, Ny, UsAs an IT Operations director, I managed a low-8 digit budget with ~100 professionals, took 7 digits of costs out of the business while improving key performance indicators -- system availability, time to outage resolution, first-call resolution, (reducing) staff overtime, etc. I sponsored and implemented a database and storage re-platforming project that dramatically improved database availability and performance while reducing licensing costs. I'm particularly proud of my team's improvements in process automation and system performance -- we collapsed a 3 week month-end close process into a 18 hour month-end close process (allowing our business teams to see and adjust to financials in a more timely manner) and reducing a 36-hour large-day batch cycle to 8 hours, improving cash flow and customer responsiveness, both efforts achieved through continuous improvement and efficiency gains, not with CAPEX spend or increased OPEX costs. As a software engineering director, I established a new development organization to service-enable our enterprise, led the software selection and purchase process, established the development standards and processes, currently lead the development effort, and am managing the transition from dev to production. As an Senior IT leader, I hired managers and mentored new directors -- helping my employees transition from being team leads to being managers, or from being managers to being directors. I shifted resources from Asia to the Nearshore to drive improved value, improve alignment with business objects (by improving communication between IT and business units), and reduced employee turnover (ended employee overnight conference calls with Asia). As a strategist, I continuously look for areas to deliver business value, and seek that value faster, cheaper, and better than previous efforts. This includes being laser focused on the goals and supporting our business in choosing the correct targets.
