Michael Harty is a geologist at Oxy applying data science to optimize oil and gas development in the DJ Basin. He is always interested in learning and applying new technology to solve both new and old problems. Previously at Oxy he was part of a multidisciplinary asset development team in the Delaware Basin in New Mexico. He worked daily with reservoir engineers, production engineers, petrophysicists, and landmen to plan and execute active development and optimize base production in both unconventional and conventional assets.In 2017, he completed graduate school at Colorado School of Mines where as a researcher in the Niobrara Research Consortium lead by Dr. Steve Sonnenberg he developed his skills and knowledge as a geoscientist while working on projects with direct relevance to petroleum exploration and production. His research focused on the stratigraphy and petroleum potential of the Juana Lopez Member of the Mancos Shale in northwestern Colorado.He conducted research with the Colorado Geological Survey regarding induced seismicity related to deep wastewater injection and disposal in the Denver Basin. Results of this project was presented in a talk at American Association of Petroleum Geologists Annual Convention and Expo in April 2017.
