In 2004 I began the Business Planning to start a company that offers small rental generators to the events, construction and civil construction markets. This business was called WA Rental Solutions.We bought not only the generators, but also the other components that make them useful, such as cables, distribution boards, fuel tanks and cable ramps. We were soon working within some major events in Perth snd on some major construction sites. Our competitive advantage was that we were reliable and we would go above and beyond to satisfy our customers.Through careful but bold planning we grew consistently in these markets, whilst at the same time looking for opportunities in other industries and markets.We began to take on work in the mining sector so we grew our service team to enable us to support our products. In 2007 we strategised to open our branch in Kalgoorlie to support our services in the Goldfields region, and in 2009 our growth strategy took us to Karratha, where we opened another branch.Our strategies were working because of careful planning and great execution from some wonderful staff, so much so, that we outlived our business name and rebranded as Genstar in 2012. Genstar offers creative Power Generation Solutions to the Industrial, Mining and Oil and Gas sectors. Aggreko is a global power generation rental companyI was initially recruited to Aggreko as a sales executive. Because of my background in general sales, together with my forklift truck rental experience Aggreko soon got me selling into the mining sectors.I began this role by learning the ropes of the power generation industry, as this was new to me. I developed a plan to open up the mining sector for new opportunities and larger, longer-term opportunities than had been targeted previously. This was successful, I secured a 2.5MW installation within 9 months, and this job lasted for 4 years. I also secured a 5MW installation on a 5-year contract within 12 months.In October 1994 I was promoted to the position of Branch Manager. Based in Welshpool, I was responsible for the growth of the business throughout Western Australia.I developed plans to grow the business despite the depressed mining market. We grew the business successfully through this period the point where I recognized the need to open 2 new branches. In December 1997 we opened in Kalgoorlie and Karratha, primarily to give us a local presence and to allow us to have service crews closer to our customers.
