As a Staff Associate for the Senior Associate Vice President (SAVP) of Development Services, I perform a number of organizational and coordinating functions for the support of the staff of Duke University Development. These include managing the SAVP's calendar and scheduling meetings, coordinating the furnishing of the office with supplies, assisting with the onboarding of new employees, and publishing the office newsletter each month.

The role of a Project Coordinator with Duke University Development is to support the fundraising arm of the university by providing precise research on potential donors. In this role, I support the Vice President of Development by providing briefings on any prospects he may be interested in meeting. Apart from this, I am helping to reformat the training program run by Development's Prospect Research, Management, and Analytics team (PRMA) by reviewing the training materials available and redesigning them to be more accessible for new hires.

As a Project Coordinator for Duke Graduate School, I perform a number of roles integral to fundraising for the institution. My primary role is supporting the communications team by drafting stewardship and solicitation letters, developing one-page documents as resources for front-line fundraisers, and drafting content for a webpage for a major fundraising campaign. I also perform data analysis and prospecting, identifying key fundraising opportunities by reviewing our prospect pool using metrics associated with giving behaviors and qualitative relational data. Along with this, I support the Graduate School Board of Visitors (GBOV) in a number of administrative capacities.

As a Staff Writer for Duke University's Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture, I managed the authorship of a special commemorative newsletter that explored the past, present, and future of the Center's work. The document is part of a fundraising and engagement campaign being launched by the MLWC, designed to grow alumni and community involvement in the Center's mission. To assemble a compelling story, I explored and compiled information by accessing the university and Center archives as well as conducting interviews with people who had special histories with the MLWC. From there, I met frequently with the Center's director to review formatting and story flow, and by the end of it had completed an extensive document that painted a vivid image of what the Center was, what it is, what we hope for it to be, and the spirit of community that persists throughout.

The Samuel Dubois Cook Center on Social Equity is a research institute run by Duke University that focuses on research surrounding social equity in the South. With their Young Scholars Summer Research Institute (YSSRI), I worked with a Durham County Public Schools-licensed educator to teach a class of 14 brilliant students from underserved backgrounds to teach students how to conduct research that matters to them and to their communities. Through this program, I had the pleasure of seeing a room of young, promising minds grow in their outlook on the world and grow as young academics. As a Staff Writer for the Center, I prepared an extensive report outlining the findings of the Cook Center's work in their March 2018 Conference reflecting on the impact of the Reconstruction Amendments (13th, 14th, and 15th amendments) on modern race politics. It was gratifying to explore the thoughts and contributions made by some of the nation's leading and burgeoning thinkers and researchers, and the report I assembled served the Center's mission to maintain correspondence with the National Science Foundation, which funded the conference.

As part of Goldman Sachs' Human Capital Management Division, I worked with the Goldman Sachs University (GSU) team developing programs and resources to develop the talent of the Goldman Sachs team regionally, nationally, and globally. To name a few of the projects I worked on:1. I researched and curated a list of conferences and training programs for the global GSU team's members. The curated list organized programs across the five major regions Goldman Sachs organizes itself, and included comprehensive data on the conferences' focuses, costs, dates, and other information.2. I worked with a team of GSU specialists to review and update aspects of the company's global training model. I researched and developed a presentation to provide benchmarks on the practices of comparable firms.3. I used Microsoft Excel to develop a set of functions via which data on the population of newly-oriented analysts and associates could be arranged in order to highlight key trends in the orientation program and experience.

Carrolton School Of The Sacred Heart @ Gulliver Prep

Breakthrough Collaborative is an academic enrichment program aimed at supporting high-achieving students from under-served backgrounds (i.e. low-income, minority, etc.). The program enlists the talents of passionate and skilled college students and high school seniors to teach these students in a dynamic and engaging environment geared toward not only preparing these students for the upcoming school year by exposing them to the state-issued curriculum early, but also teaching them valuable personal life skills that serve to combat the gap in opportunity that these students currently face. As an intern with Breakthrough Miami, I taught 30 students spread across three class periods 6th-grade math, for each of which I was responsible for preparing engaging and enriching lesson plans.

As an intern with the JJ Vance program hosted by the Hussman Institute of Human Genomics, I worked alongside a Post-Doctorate on discovering the genetic factors in the pathology of Parkinson's disease.Learned and practiced proper laboratory procedures and handled actual lab materials, including equipment and DNA samples. Analyzed DNA samples and presented my findings to researchers and fellow interns.
