I work as a mechanical engineer for Branson Ultrasonics: an Emerson Company. My primary job function is to design engineered to order (ETO) tooling and fixturing. I communicate with salesmen, applications engineers, and customers to determine the necessary product specifications. I then design all the fixturing and tooling necessary to produce a quality weld and manufacturing process for our customers. I have done jobs that vary greatly in scope. I have done everything from small hand operated fixturing to two-person servo actuated systems. The job has taught me the importance of precision and quick turnaround times. With engineering as the first step in the job process, there is no room for error. I learned the importance of double checking my work and developed the skill of anticipating potential problems in order to mitigating and remove their risk. I use ANSYS to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on an almost daily basis to determine the resonant frequency and harmonic stresses acting on our tooling. I have extensive experience with drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). Because most of our manufacturing is performed in-house, I have developed extensive understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA). I have had the privilege of working alongside the machinists and assemblers. They have given me feedback and I have learned from them important skills to make the manufacturing and assembly process faster and smoother. I frequently meet with toolmakers to discuss machining practices to better design my parts to reduce cost and leadtime.

I worked as a Mechanical Engineering intern at Cummins Turbo Technologies as a product validation intern. I had the pleasure of working to help move the HE900 turbocharger platform from limited production on its journey to full production.

I work in the EH&S Office at Draper Laboratory. I answer telephones, file paperwork, and do other clerical work. During my time at Draper Laboratory, it was my task to update Draper Laboratory's entire SDS (Safety Data Sheet) records. I had to search through online resources to find the most up to date files, and then file both electronic and paper copies of Draper's Safety Data Sheets. I also had the responsibility of archiving outdated files, as well as communicating with companies in order to acquire the necessary files.

Summer EmploymentI performed odd jobs working as a team member. I learned the inner workings of equipment and did maintenance on them. My employment was for the summer months before I had to go back to college. My position gave me the opportunity to better understand the importance of design in all mechanical equipment. I learned how to look at a design and find areas that need real life design improvement.
