Michael was responsible for all day-to-day operations, fiscal management, strategic planning, and community engagement work of the Esplanade Association. He worked with a dynamic board and staff to develop annual priorities, diversify funding sources while securing private support tied to mission-focused outcomes, identify thoughtful programming partnerships, and more to enliven the most-visited state park in Massachusetts.• Developed strategic plans, annual goal-setting process, and numerous new internal policies - including sustainability, resiliency, equity, and accessibility policies - to formalize and mature an adolescent park non-profit into a modern green sector leader locally and nationally.• Initiated several new programs and events, including the development of a new public art program, a new music series for artists of color, new neighborhood-focused family activities, and dynamic cultural programming.• Led organization’s fundraising efforts while securing over $31.25m in gifts and pledges, expanding total annual revenue 250% (from $1.3m to $4.6m), and total net assets 316% (from $1.2m to $5.0m).o Diversified fundraising to include robust corporate sponsorship program, a newly-formed earned revenue initiative that developed a beer garden, and a renewed emphasis on grant generation. o Established and led the organization’s first capital campaign – with nearly $20m in gifts and pledges – to support development of a waterfront welcome center and creation of org’s first endowed funds.o Secured seven largest fundraising commitments in the org’s history while demonstrating ability to raise significant capital, endowment-building, foundation, and programmatic gifts and pledges.• Managed 16-person staff (doubled during tenure) • Provided strategic counsel to Board of Directors on legal, policy, budgetary, political, operational, fundraising, and public relations matters while serving as primary external spokesperson and community relations official.
