Dr. Burton is a scholar with experience in high-consequence decision-making. Formerly an associate professor of Political Science at Ohio University (political leadership, data analysis, campaign management, and strategic choice), he has been involved in national politics for more than three decades.His work in Washington, DC, included time in the office of Vice President Al Gore as special assistant to the chief of staff and assistant political director.Dr. Burton has served on the national board of the American Association of Political Consultants. He now works in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado as an EMT for Silverton Medical Rescue. Current scholarly interests go to Bayesian Monte Carlo analysis of financial markets.With William J. Miller and Daniel M. Shea, he wrote Campaign Craft: The Strategies, Tactics, and Art of Political Campaign Management and with Shea he wrote Campaign Mode: Strategic Vision in Congressional Elections.  Scholarly articles examine electoral strategy, White House operations, consumer protection, and firearms law.He received his A.B. (1986) and M.A. (1988) from Ohio University, and his Ph.D. (1995) from the State University of New York at Albany.Although Dr. Burton has a professional interest in rational decision-making, personal distractions include high-altitude mountaineering, scuba diving, and long-distance trail running.
