About Michael J. Lee

My major area of focus is in human-computer interaction (HCI) and Computing Education Research (CER). I create technologies to effectively and measurably teach novices basic programming concepts, and to broaden participation in computing.I created the NSF-funded Gidget game (helpgidget.org), a free online puzzle game designed to teach debugging and programming concepts. It has taught hundreds of thousands of people basic coding concepts, and continues to be used across the world in coding camps, diversity fairs, and school classrooms.I partner with the Urban League of Essex County (ULEC.org) to provide coding lessons to K-12 students in Newark, New Jersey, through the previously NSF-funded "Newark Kids Code" program.
