About Michael J. Sgro

I am a patent lawyer with a practice focusing on patent procurement and IP strategy. I regularly assist clients, ranging in size from SMEs to multinational corporations, in drafting and prosecuting Canadian patent applications, and coordinating the drafting and prosecution of patent applications worldwide. I also provide advice regarding the patentability of an invention, the validity of Canadian patents, possible infringement issues, and freedom-to-operate concerns in Canada. I am a chemist by training, with direct experience in the development of technologies related to small molecule catalysis, semi-conductors, polymer synthesis and modification, carbon capture and transformation, and lignin. I have authored or co-authored several academic publications in these fields and am a named inventor on multiple patents/patent applications. I draw on my past experiences and training to help inventors protect their inventions related to, for example, chemical compositions, small molecules (NCEs), semiconductors, polymers, catalysts and catalytic processes, and manufacturing processes and apparatuses, and to leverage the value of their intellectual property assets.
