Chief Executive Officer

Current

Docklands, Victoria, Au

Snow Australia is the nationally and internationally recognised National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for competitive snow sports in Australia. Responsible for setting and leading the culture of Snow Australia, I have managed a complete transformation of organization from a start-up position to Tier 1 Foundation Sport within the Australian Sports System—the highest possible level of recognition. I’ve developed a strong corporate culture and established a public face promoting snow sports to the broader community—both domestic and international. As CEO, I provide strategic, operational, financial and relationship vision and direction. Development of strong and productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders–including international and national sporting bodies, state and federal government representatives, media and athletes and their families–has been vital for my success in this role. By implementing and managing professional program partnerships and effective management of athlete pathways I have increased elite high-performance competition results including multi-medal outcomes at each of the past five Olympic Winter Games—one of only five sports in Australia to achieve this over the past 20 years. We created award-winning participation/grassroots initiatives that involved developing start-up digital platforms and collaborating with the commercial resort network. We have continued to evolve the communication systems to increase profile, relevance and connection to the broader community. I have ensured that Snow Australia has consistently met and exceeded its KPI’s (as set by the Board and Government) in executing the business/sport operational plans and successfully procured an increase in Government funding levels.

High Performance Program Manager

Docklands, Victoria, Au

The Australian Olympic Committee formed the Olympic Winter Institute (OWI) in 1998, to enable the development of elite performances in winter sports by Australian athletes, through the provision of adequate funding, world-class sports programming and technical coaching. The OWI is a partnership program of the Australian Institute of Sport and receives considerable support from the Australian Sports Commission. The OWI employs around 30 staff and provides sport program opportunities across six winter sport disciplines. In this role I took overall responsibility for the training and performance of Australia’s elite Winter sports teams and athletes, including overseas team logistics and management. Once again I was in a start-up position, guiding the organisation from concept to coordinating and developing an effective training and competition program for OWI Programs in consultation with Head Technical Coaches and the CEO. I took responsibility for financial management and capital expenditure, athlete contracts, scholarship agreements and development and monitoring athletes’ performance against agreed individual KPI’s. I oversaw the professional development of coaching staff through active coaching and mentoring.I was the Australian Team Manager for the Gold Medal winning section of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games team, and Top Coach of the program which lead to Alisa Camplin's Gold Medal achievement at the 2002 Winter Olympics. I consistently delivered high performance programs on budget and equally consistently met KPI’s for both program aims and individual athlete performances.

1998 - 2002 ~4 yrs

Founder/Director

Australian Winter Sports Camps

I founded Australian Winter Sports Camps (AWSC) with the simple mission to provide the highest standard overseas training experience to the broadest range of athletes possible. It was the longest continually operating overseas ski and snowboarding training camp service in Australia, operating consistently for nearly 15 years, with over 500 Australian athletes attended AWSC programs. As a 20-year old I saw an opportunity to give athletes year-round on-snow training by organising overseas ski and snowboarding training camps for Australian winter-sports athletes during the northern hemisphere’s winters. I set up the business, established the necessary business links and relationships, and developed a team of high-performance coaches to run the camps. Additionally, I lead the development of the marketing campaigns required to publicise the AWSC and grow the business. Starting with a clear vision for the business, I negotiated the program structure and costs with an international ski resort and an existing local club. Creating effective marketing plans and camp strategy, and sourcing coaches both domestically and internationally were key to the success of the business as was my management of the program logistics including transport, accommodation, meals, coaching and off -snow activities for approximately 35 athletes per year.I learnt here the fundamentals of financial management - starting at with an annual budget of $50,000 and growing it to $250,000. More than just an example of my entrepreneurial and start-up skills, which remain with still, in this position I proved I was capable of developing a sustained business, one which operated profitably and effectively for over 15 years.
