  • The Observer Uk
    Director Of Technology
    The Observer Uk
    London, Gb
  • Ossa
    Chief Product Officer
    Ossa Jul 2022 - Present
    London, England, United Kingdom
OSSA stands for Online Self Service Advertising. It's an innovative tech startup using AI to build a generative advertising platform targeted at small businesses. My role combines product design, management, and delivery. OSSA is a small team, and I'm effectively also the CTO, with responsibility for everything from coding standards and technical architecture through to integrations with partner APIs.
  • Tortoise Media
    Head Of Product
    Tortoise Media May 2019 - Jun 2022
    London, United Kingdom
Tortoise is a “slow news” media startup founded in 2018. The business produces podcasts and long-form journalism, live events (both online and in-person), and email newsletters, all distributed to the membership through the website and mobile apps. I joined the team pre-launch to manage product and technology across all strands of the business. The role includes understanding and prioritising stakeholder requirements originating from the editorial, commercial and creative teams; managing relationships and delivery with our external technical suppliers; documenting user journeys and preparing wire-frames; prototyping new features; selecting and managing the implementation of third party solutions; building microsites for commercial partners; and reporting to investors and the board. While most of the Tortoise tech stack rests on SaaS services and external technology suppliers, I created an internal dev team to deliver key differentiated user experiences, such as an integrated ticketing system for Tortoise events that runs on AWS. This involved recruiting and mentoring the developers, and setting in place best practice processes for agile discovery and delivery
  • Byte The Book

  • Flourish
    Product Developer
    Flourish Apr 2017 - Apr 2019
    London, England, United Kingdom
Flourish is a SaaS data storytelling platform that simplifies the creation of interactive data visualisations. I joined as the fourth member of the cross-functional team, focusing on the front-end user experience, and was responsible for the design, prototyping and delivery of many critical features of the platform, from Excel integration to visualisation export. Flourish became very widely adopted by news organisations world-wide, and was acquired by Canva in late 2021
  • Contentment
    Founder And Ceo
    Contentment Jun 2011 - Mar 2016
Contentment was a SaaS tablet publishing platform primarily targeting the magazine sector. I raised over £1m in funding from investors including Dennis Publishing, and built an agile team up to a dozen developers and designers. Contentment was used to deliver tablet and mobile editions of many of Dennis’ own titles, as well as those of other publishers. As the product owner, I set our product strategy, specified our technical architecture, and designed and managed delivery of the product. Contentment was acquired by Sonr in 2016, who were themselves acquired by Audioboom shortly afterwards.
  • News International
Head Of Publishing, Digital Publishing Initiative
    News International May 2010 - Jan 2011
Heading up the publisher-facing side of a new digital publishing initiative, I took responsibility for integrating third party publisher content and processes, as well as the design and delivery of a new curation toolset & templating solution. I worked with publishers in both the US and UK, with implementation teams reporting to me in both countries.
