The Post of Special Responsibility is a key role within the Radio Broadcast Co-ordinator (BCO) section. In addition to my current duties as a Radio BCO for RTÉ Radio 1, I am also responsible for:- The scheduling of all Radio BCO staff to meet programme demands efficiently and cost-effectively – both for regular programming and special events.- Ensuring that all duties are adequately covered in the event of staff shortages due to sick leave or other circumstances.- Ensuring all leave records are up to date at all times and forward planning of all annual leave requests to ensure programme demands can be met.- Assisting the Manager of Programme Support in the preparation of the annual budget.- Reporting to the Manager Programme Support on a regular basis on areas such as programme staffing, assignments and additional requirements, troubleshooting etc.- Assist in the recruitment, training, development and assessment of staff.- Attending planning meetings.- Use scheduling software to develop and maintain a demand and capacity recording system- Keeping track of and entering payments for casual/freelance workRTÉ (Raidió Teilifís Éireann) is Ireland's national public-service media organisation. I am currently working as a Radio Broadcast Co-ordinator in RTÉ Radio 1. This role is in tandem with editorial and technical staff, providing administrative and production support in order to produce first class radio programming.My duties include:- Ability to think creatively and “outside the box”- Creating, designing and maintaining programme databases, programme reports and running orders- Providing administrative and production support to the programme teams- Contributing to the selection of appropriate music for the programme- Co-ordinating the bookings for studio and technical facilities across all of our facilities- Screening incoming calls and messages from listeners and monitoring contributors- Updating the programme’s social media sites and websites- Processing all programme payments and competition administration, including handling competition prizes, and ensuring delivery to winners- Providing running orders and any other programme information for archive purposes- Knowledge of production techniques and editing practiceIn order to achieve this I have developed and constantly up-skill on the following skills:- Experience of live programmes- Excellent interpersonal skills- Attention to detail- Proven social media networking and podcasting- The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a busy team- The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlinesMy experience has allowed me to work across the full schedule of RTÉ Radio 1 & 2fm, from dawn to dust with each and every member of production and presentation staff.This position allows me to be in the heart of content making, working with team members to ensure RTÉ tells Ireland's Stories.

This is essentially a people management job, a Stage Manager is the direct contact between the Television production control room.In this role, I had to prove my ability to get along with people both in the artistic and technical sides of studio and more importantly to understand what they do. This work isn't always glamorous, often involving long hours but is most rewarding when the production of a programme goes without a glitch.I was assigned to work on The Frontline with Pat Kenny, RTÉ's live audience current affairs programme. Some of the duties included:- Meeting & liaising with the contributors ensuring that all guests for the show arrived on time. - Issued requirements by studio floor manager and/or television director.- Give announcements and take questions.- Remind cast about scheduled fittings and or changes to the schedule.

I started in RTÉ through an internship in news and current affairs on Prime Time. After gaining invaluable experience on my placement I was offered some part time work as a runner on Entertainment programming in Television. This role as a runner is an entry-level position in the organisation but is a role which allows you to see all parts of the organisation, all departments and professionals at work. I worked under the direction of the Executive Producer and production staff, to undertake whatever basic tasks are required to ensure the smooth running of the production process. Over this time I was assigned to The Late Late Show, Saturday Night with Brendan O'Connor, Republic of Telly, Fair City, The Arts, The Frontline, Prime Time, Spirit Level, RTÉ Sport, Election 2012 and more.
